St. Catharines – MP Rick Dykstra continued to make good on his pledge to put St. Catharines back on the political landscape in Ottawa, by making another announcement that will help create jobs and promote growth in a high-tech industry. Dykstra revealed today that Silicon Knights, an interactive entertainment company that manufactures video games, will receive funding in the form of a repayable loan from the Community Adjustment Fund, part of FedDev Ontario.
“I could not be happier that our government has recognized the significance of supporting this kind of high-tech, knowledge-based business”, said Dykstra. “This type of industry is a perfect example of where our community needs to be, going forward.”
The investment of nearly $4 million will be used to create a new AAA video game that will appeal to a mass gaming market. The game will have high production values and will be released on multiple platforms worldwide. This project will retain and create more than 65 new high-tech jobs at Silicon Knight’s home in St. Catharines.
“We are very pleased with the federal government’s commitment to our company”, said Denis Dyack, President of Silicon Knights. “By providing its strong financial support through the Community Adjustment Fund, we will be able to further grow as an AAA video game developer in the worldwide market place, and retain some of the world-class talent that can be found in the Niagara Region. The efforts of Rick Dykstra, Member of Parliament, have been outstanding in this endeavour, and will have a lasting impact on Silicon Knights and on the economy of the Niagara region overall. “
FedDev Ontario was created as part of Canada’s Economic Action Plan to support economic and community development, innovation, and economic diversification, with contributions to communities, businesses and non-profit organizations in southern Ontario.
