Andrew Peters Supports Hockey Night in St. Catharines!
Jul 19, 2010 at 02:40 PM

UPDATE: NHL Alumni playing in St.Catharines on Aug 13 include: Pat Graham, Bob Manno, Bobby LaForest, Mark LaForest and Steve Ludzick!!

St. Catharines (July 16, 2010) -- Hometown boy Andrew Peters is headed back to St. Catharines and onto the ice to help out the community at Hockey Night in St. Catharines.

Peters, who just finished a season with the New Jersey Devils, is the most recent NHL alumni to sign on for Hockey Night.  The community event will pit NHL alumni, including team captain, Steve Ludzik, formerly of the Chicago Blackhawks, against members of the community and the Federal Conservative Caucus to raise money for the St. Catharines and District United Way.

“We are glad to have Andrew back in St. Catharines and honoured that would take time out of his summer to come home and help out,” announced St. Catharine MP Rick Dykstra.  “We’re very excited for the game.  I know there’s one thing federal politics and the NHL has in common, keep your head in the corners and Andrew better not take us MPs too lightly!”

“I’m looking forward to getting on the ice with Dykstra,” said Peters, “He talks tough in Ottawa.  I want to see the guy on a pair of skates.  I think it will be a great match and above all, a fun night for everyone.”

The game and fun starts at 7 pm on Friday, August 13 at the Gatorade Garden City Complex.  Tickets are still available and can be purchased for $10 at the Niagara Ice Dogs office (35 Queen Street, St. Catharines) and through all Ticketmaster outlets.  Prime seat VIP tickets are available for $100 which includes entry to the post-game reception with the players and an official game jersey.

[Transition Plan for the Canadian Securities Regulatory Authority]

The Honourable Jim Flaherty, Minister of Finance, today welcomed the release of a detailed plan by the Canadian Securities Transition Office to help ensure a smooth and orderly transition to a Canadian securities regulator.

"It is extremely important that the implementation of a Canadian securities regulator will be seamless for financial system professionals and investors alike,” said Minister Flaherty.  “The transition plan released today lays out a path to that end and represents a key milestone in the establishment of an effective Canadian securities regulator that will improve securities regulation in Canada, strengthen protection for investors and enhance enforcement."

In setting out a vision for the Canadian securities regulator and a road map for its establishment, the Plan also addresses organizational and administrative matters such as staffing and employee benefits.

"I appreciate the work the Transition Office has done and continues to do,” said Minister Flaherty.  “I invite all provinces and territories to join the efforts to establish a Canadian securities regulator."

The Transition Office consulted closely with the Advisory Committee of Participating Provinces and Territories, as well as officials and regulators of participating provinces, in developing the transition plan.  Going forward, the Transition Office will continue to work with participating provinces and territories, including through the Advisory Committee, on matters relating to human, financial, material and informational resources, as well as the regulations that will complement the proposed Canadian Securities Act.

The transition plan follows the release of the proposed Canadian Securities Act on May 26, 2010.  The next step will be the development of agreements with the participating provinces and territories and continued refinement of the organizational and administrative matters in the transition plan.
